Vince Kelly is the founder of Ocean Matters, an organization devoted to ocean conservation, education, and fostering a deeper human connection with the marine world.

Vince’s love for the ocean began at an early age. One of his most vivid childhood memories is visiting the Shedd Aquarium, an experience that ignited a lifelong fascination with marine life. That spark grew into a two-decade journey at Shedd, where Vince served as both a volunteer and employee. During his time there, he worked hands-on with marine mammals, cared for a wide variety of aquatic species, and even helped raise penguins from eggs. These immersive experiences gave him a deep understanding of marine ecosystems and the urgent challenges they face.

A certified Rescue Diver since 1993, Vince has explored oceans across the globe. From diving with Great White Sharks and Manta Rays to swimming alongside sea turtles and vibrant reef fish, his underwater adventures have taken him to some of the most stunning marine environments on Earth.

Through Ocean Matters, Vince shares his passion for SCUBA diving, marine biology, and conservation. He believes that firsthand experiences with the ocean are among the most powerful ways to cultivate empathy for the natural world. His mission is to inspire people of all ages to care about the ocean, get involved in its protection, and understand that even small actions can create meaningful change.

Today, Vince continues to blend adventure, education, and advocacy, proving that the ocean doesn’t just matter. It matters deeply.
